Tour of George Washington's Mansion at Mount Vernon
Canceled
Mount Vernon, located south of Washington DC and near Alexandria Virginia, was the home of the first President of the United States of America, George Washington. The mansion was built of wood in neoclassical Georgian architectural style in an estate located on the banks of the Potomac River. Washington returned to Mount Vernon after his term as President, and lived here in retirement until his death.
The mansion and the associated outbuildings, gardens, and grounds together comprise an unparalleled example of a well preserved 18th-century Anglo-American cultural landscape and a prime illustration of plantation life and economy. For this reason in January 2009 it has been officially nominated for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Join us for a private evening tour - after the gates are closed to the general public and the candles are lit - to enjoy this national treasure and the state-of-the-art Donald W. Reynolds Museum, which hosts a rich and comprehensive collection of furnishings, china, silver, clothing, jewelry, Revolutionary War artifacts, rare books and manuscripts, and other personal effects of the Washington family.
